Pittsburgh, Pa. − December 17, 2019 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams announced today that Hampton Township, Shaler Township, Tarentum Borough, and West View Borough will receive grant funding through the PennDOT Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) program.
Hampton Township will receive $166,500 to upgrade the traffic signal at the intersection of Wildwood Road and West Hardies Road/Wildwood Sample Road. Shaler Township will receive $308,000 to install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 8 and the Glenshaw Glass Driveway. Tarentum Borough will receive $226,000 to upgrade the existing traffic signal at the intersection of East Main Avenue and Corbet Street. West View Borough will receive $12,682 to install overhead pedestrian crossing signs along Perry Highway.
“Traffic safety is one of the most regular complaints municipalities receive, but finding solutions to these problems can be complicated and extremely costly,” said Senator Williams. “This grant funding will allow Hampton, Shaler, Tarentum, and West View to move forward with projects to make our roads safer for everyone – drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.”
PennDOT ARLE Grants are funded by fines from red light violations at 30 intersections in Philadelphia and 3 in Abington Township, Montgomery County. The program funds projects that improve the safety and mobility of Pennsylvanians with an emphasis on low-cost, high-impact improvements.
