Pittsburgh, Pa. − August 27, 2019  − Senator Lindsey Williams joined State Fire Commissioner Bruce Trego, State Representative Lori Mizgorski, and other Shaler Township officials yesterday to present the Elfinwild Volunteer Fire Company and Chief Tim Phillips with a $200,000 loan check. Funding for the loan was provided by the Pennsylvania Volunteer Loan Assistance Program (VLAP).

VLAP provides low interest loans to volunteer emergency service providers so that they can purchase or repair/rehabilitate apparatus, facilities, or equipment. Yesterday’s check represented the $500 millionth dollar that has been distributed to emergency services providers through VLAP.

“Our volunteer firefighters and EMS are an integral part of our community,” said Senator Williams. “It’s critical that we as a state invest in them and make sure that they have the equipment that keeps them safe when they’re responding to an emergency.”

Elfinwild put the VLAP funding toward the purchase of a new 2020 Pierce Engine, which the Department took delivery of yesterday. The new engine features state of the art technology and safety equipment.
