Pittsburgh, Pa. − January 29, 2020 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams announced that the Office of the State Fire Commission (OSFC) has awarded grant funding to 59 volunteer fire companies and emergency medical services companies throughout District 38.

These grants were made through the 2019-2020 Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program (FCEMSGP). Grantees can use the funds for facility construction or repair, equipment purchase or repair, debt reduction associated with facility or equipment, training and certification of members, and materials for fire prevention education for the general public.

“Our EMS companies and volunteer fire departments spend countless hours fundraising to provide top-quality, life saving services to their community members every single year,” said Senator Williams. “This funding is a good start to relieving that fundraising burden, but we need to go further in helping our first responders run their day-to-day operations safely and at the high level of professionalism that we have come to expect from these mostly volunteer organizations.”
