Pittsburgh, Pa. − July 15, 2019 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams announced that the Larimer CNI Phase IV Development on Larimer Avenue and Winslow Street in Pittsburgh, the Natrona Heights Senior Apartments on Eleventh Avenue in Harrison Township, and the North Negley Residences on North Negley Avenue in Pittsburgh have been awarded funding through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund (PHARE).
The Larimer CNI Phase IV Project has been awarded $1,000,000 through the National Housing Trust Fund (HTF), which provides resources to develop, preserve, and rehabilitate housing for very low and extremely low-income households. The project is for the re-use of the historic Larimer School and construction of two new townhouse buildings, which will include one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units, as well as six accessible units. 18 of these units will have HUD Project Based Section 8 assistance.
The Natrona Heights Senior Apartments Project has been awarded $542,218 through the Realty Transfer Tax Fund (RTT), which provides funding to address the need for affordable housing in all 67 counties across the Commonwealth. This project is to construct a new building with thirty new one- and two-bedroom units for people aged 62 and above.
The North Negley Residences has been awarded $1,250,000, also through RTT, for the construction, rehabilitation, and conversion of a four-story building with elevator into a 45-unit development, including 5 accessible units. 10 of these units will include Section 8 project-based rental assistance; 6 additional units will have Section 811 assistance.
“These new developments will bring quality, affordable housing options into communities where it is desperately needed,” said Senator Williams. “These construction projects not only create jobs and rehabilitate properties that would otherwise sit vacant, but they will give families, single mothers, seniors, and those with disabilities the chance to live independently while building their communities.”
In addition to receiving PHARE funding, each project has been granted conditional reservations of tax credits. These programs are administered by the PA Housing Finance Agency.
