Pittsburgh, Pa. − November 14, 2019 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams announced that Blawnox Borough, Richland Township, and Ross Township have been awarded grant funding through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Community Parks, Small Community and Partnership Grants program (C2P2).

In Blawnox, $40,000 in funding will be used to expand the existing basketball court at Blawnox Community Park to a full-sized court and add a new playing surface, as well as install boards and paint additional lines so that the new court can double as a deck hockey rink. Additionally, updates will be made to bring existing facilities into ADA compliance, ensuring access for all members of the community.

Richland Township will use the $217,500 award to make updates to the popular Community Barn event facility and to continue upgrades at the Richland Township Community Park. These upgrades include new play equipment, lighting, and additional ADA compliance features, as well as a new concession stand, which will be built in partnership with the Pine-Richland Baseball/Softball Association.

Ross Township received $114,000 for further development of Denny Park, including the construction of a disc golf course, pedestrian walkway, and comfort station. This work will build on the recent rehabilitation of the baseball field and continue to improve access to residents by increasing ADA access to facilities.

“Increasing access to our parks for children and adults of all ages and abilities is a priority,” said Senator Williams. “For example, we know that the same ramps that help individuals in wheelchairs assist families with strollers; handrails help people who need assistance staying steady on their feet whether those individuals are 2 or 82. By making updates and bringing these accessibility features to our parks, these communities are ensuring that everyone can join in.”
